England is having a heat wave, and it’s safe to say the nation is LOVING IT. With the world cup in full swing, temperatures at a record high, we’re all running to the supermarket to grab supplies for a BBQ. We don’t get this weather all year round so we need to make the most of it.There’s something about summer in the garden surrounded by friends, good food, good company, good drinks, life is for living and for me, I love to spend mine like this.Hostess or guest, there’s always a thought on what to wear. Personally, I don’t want anything tight or thick. I spotted this House of Fraser dress and knew it was the ultimate garden party dress. Even Mark Heyes (ITV’s stylist) recommended this dress as a perfect summer dress after seeing her highness Megan Markle sporting a loose shirt dress!
The cotton dress is super lightweight and easy to wear. I chose to add the belt to give it a little more shape, but it still looks great without if you don’t want any restrictions. Trust me, the belt will be off after the BBQ food! I’ve gone for a pair of raffia wedges and a House of Fraser summer bag which couldn’t have matched this outfit any more perfectly! Keep an open mind with dresses like these (you can discover more in their dresses range). It would also look very cute with a pair of white trainers, or even some flat flip flops. Work it to whatever you’ve got planned. If a game of rounders is on the cards, pop those white trainers on and you’ll be the coolest cucumber out there! Or if a dance off in the kitchen is likely to happen, bring your flats!
Here’s 4 ways you could wear this dress…
As pictured, nip in the waist with a waist belt, pop on your favourite wedges and grab the wicker/straw bag!
Pretty flat flip flops, cute rucksack, you could plait your hair for the uber cute look.
Add a denim jacket as summer in England can be a bit temperamental and opt for the comfy white trainers/pumps.
Wear the dress completely undone with a white cami and pair of white cropped jeans underneath! The open shirt dress will work similar to a kimono and give you a very chic look!I’m totally obsessed with the print on the dress, while the style of it is very traditional and classic, the colour and print give it a little edge! I also undid a button at the bottom to share a bit of leg… cheeky ;-)I love having pieces like this in my wardrobe which you can style in totally different looks, it isn’t good for anyone’s bank account to keep buying new dresses for different occasions, so change up the accessories each time!
This dress is from the Warehouse concession within House of Fraser, they’ve got a really great selection of brands within House of Fraser. The bag was also from House of Fraser, it was in the sale, love a sale find! It’s a match made in heaven with the dress. I can’t wait to wear the bag with a pair of denim shorts and a white cami, I think a pop of colour can really finish off an outfit.
Top tips for dressing for a garden party…
- Wear what you are comfortable with, you’re probably going to be eating, drinking, sitting down, so you won’t want anything uncomfortable and restricting!
- A little contradictory of my last point, but, you’re probably going to a friends/family members house, this is a good time to try a new print or a new colour. You can take a back-up outfit with you if you really want to get changed (you can blame it on a food spill!) but it’s a good time to step out of the comfort zone and try something new!
- Take a jacket with you. Sometimes it can turn a little nippy in the evenings, a denim jacket is always a good option to pop over your summery dress.
- Never forget or underestimate the accessories! I always say this, but accessories really bring the outfit together.
