HOW I STYLE MY OUTFITS

I wanted to run through how I style my outfits because I always hear people being so stuck on finding an outfit.… it is basically what goes through my mind when I’m choosing what to wear.

This is a hard one to write, it sounds weird, but it’s almost easier to explain verbally, so I’m sorry if I ramble, and just pretend that I’m speaking outloud to you. I’m normally speaking out loud to myself. ‘Come on Laura…’.

HOW I STYLE MY OUTFITS

I usually plan my outfit the night before, unless I have a later start. I much prefer to get up and out, so I will arrange my morning to usually start early. Therefore, outfit planning the night before saves so much stress in the morning!

It is quite literally a pep talk when I’m choosing something to wear, unless I have something new and I absolutely know that is what I’m going to wear. If I have no idea, this is how I usually choose.

How do I want to feel?

Usually the first answer is COMFY. I always used to say to my mum that she’d choose comfort over fashion, but now, I am that person. Although I really try to make comfort dressing stylish! You will never see my in a body con dress or a pair of extremely high heels, they’re so uncomfortable! If i’ve got a day of meetings, I might think I want to look smart, or some days I want to feel really girly. Listen to what you’re feeling. If you’re feeling a little run down, and want to pick yourself up, go for something really pretty!

Once I know what sort of look I want to go for/how I want to feel etc (this sounds weird but I can range from quite smart, to very girly, to tom boy, so I need to pick which one I want to be!). If it’s smart, I might choose a blazer and then plan the outfit around that. If it’s comfy, it might be a loose dress, so I’ll plan the outfit around that.

Start off by choosing 1 piece you want to wear.

Try not to stand gormlessly looking in to your wardobe thinking ‘I have nothing to wear’. I do this ALL THE TIME, and it’s so silly because I have lots of lovely clothes to wear!

You’ve got your 1 piece you’ve chosen, now choose a top or bottoms to go with that. You slowly start building up the outfit, then think about what accessories you want. It rarely happens that you literally chuck an outfit together and it’s amazing, just have a little think, try some different options on! Accessories always pull together the look so don’t underestimate them and forget about them!

Sometimes your outfit might start off with a bag or pair of shoes you really want to wear. The other day I had a leopard print hand bag I was dying to wear, I choose this first, and then knew the rest of the outfit needed to be quite plain/pattern free because the bag was going to be the hero piece of the outfit.

I like my style to be refined, quite chic, to look put together but never over the top. Never cheap or tacky. Always feminie, often with a little something extra, and I never want to look plain. So if I’m not feeling it, I won’t wear it.

Your wardrobe is your place you can find confidence, I truly believe that picking the right outfit can give you such a confidence boost! Choose that outfit wisely because it’s going to set you up for the day!

I hope this helps and gives you gets you thinking about how to style your outfits!
