Recently I’ve had a few people asking about either how to start a blog or my top tips for starting a blog. Now let me just say, in no way shape or form do I class myself as an expert in this but I’ve been doing it for 3 and a half years so I thought I’d share things I have learned over that time!
So if you’re interested in starting a blog, I’ve put together these 5 steps to start your own blog!
My 5 simple steps to start a blog…
Choose a platform
To start a blog, you need to choose the platform you want to host your blog on. The most popular ones are blogger and WordPress. I started my blog on WordPress and have always used it! Do your research and see which will suit you best! You can get a free blog site with both platforms but may need to pay for certain themes and layouts, but there is always a free one available.
Choose a blog name and style
Now the fun starts! Choose your blog name. Choosing a blog name reminds me of choosing a tattoo… you think about it for ages, imagine how you’ll feel about it in a year and will you regret it?! I thought about my blog name for ages before I decided on it! You’ll also need to choose a style/theme for your blog too. You want this to reflect what you’re going to blog about. Make sure it is true to your style as well! For example, if you’re going to blog about fashion and your personal style is very minimal, don’t go for a really busy and cluttered theme/layout. Don’t rush setting it up, take your time to get it exactly how you want it! Remember, you can change it at any time! It is yours 🙂
You want people to be able to find you easily on other platforms, so make sure on all social media, that you’ve linked your blog up. Add an email address too so people can contact you easily. You can also add social media widgets on your blog so if someone is on your blog, they can explore your social channels too! So connecting all of your online platforms together is important!
Keeping it consistent
Since I started my blog in Jan 2014, Sunday has always been my day to post. There has been exceptions where I haven’t, but the majority of Sundays, there will always be a blog post up! People like consistency and to know when to expect your new pieces of content.
Just be you
This is my biggest tip! Just be you, blog about whatever you want to blog about and share what you want to share, however you want it! You created your blog so always be true to you!
If you have any specific Q’s, please just hit me up! If you’re a super busy bee like me, blogging as much as possible and working a full time job, you can read my top tips for juggling blogging and work here!
Let’s just take a moment for all of the frills in this outfit! At first, I wasn’t sure if it was too many frills, but nope, I’ve decided there isn’t such a thing as too many frills, I absolutely bloody love it! I feel so girly and ladylike! I often feel like a bit of a tomboy as I pretty much live in jeans and a tee! Keeping to my true self, I’ve kept this look pretty monochrome but added a little bit of colour with these cute mules!
Sending lots of love
