I don’t really know where I’m going with this post but I just wanted to put a bit of a ‘think piece’ out there and have a chat with you this Sunday! I couldn’t decide on the title of this post, is Instagram real? The ups and downs of Instagram, it’s all relevant.

I do love Instagram for so many reasons, if it wasn’t for Instagram, my blog would have never been able to grow. The blog and Instagram basically go hand in hand don’t they? Instagram helps so much to push my blog, share images and lets you guys know when I have a new post up!

It also makes shopping SO much easier for us, you can screenshot your favourite bloggers outfits and be purchasing them in seconds, and our Instagram feeds and jam-packed of inspiration ready for when we are planning our next outfit. It’s all there at a click of a button.

If you’re a creative, and love taking photos, it’s a fun platform to share your images with the world for free, you can reach millions of people!

But then, on the other hand, I hate it, after a few scrolls on Instagram, I’m often left feeling deflated, not good enough and seriously comparing my life to a stranger’s life. Whether I’m comparing my content to others, my photography, my body, my style, it’s so dangerous and a few minutes later I’m basically left feeling pretty shit. This is where I find myself asking, is Instagram even real life?

I wouldn’t post a picture of my usual weekday nights which usually is me on the sofa, scoffing some sort of food, watching Netflix, in my mismatched old PJs, hair scraped back and my favourite primark slippers on. And nor would anyone else? We don’t post the photos of us on spotty days or our secret McDonalds, it’s the ‘avo and eggs’ which is now cold because we’ve just faffed around for 10 minutes trying to organise the plates.

I think before we get carried away, comparing and putting ourselves down, we seriously need to remember that people aren’t going to put their shit pics up, of course they are going to post the good shots, and the fun things they’re doing. We all do it! We’re all guilty of doing it for the ‘gram aren’t we. Setting up those oh so natural shots!

I think Instagram is an enhanced life. Photos are edited and selfies are filtered, it’s not false, it’s just ENHANCED. Let’s not take it too seriously.

Sending lots of love

I like the way you put that as Instagram being “enhanced” life. It’s important to not get fooled into thinking our lives should look like someone else’s pictures. Great thoughts!

Hey Courtney! Yes exactly! We shouldn’t compare! THanks for reading 🙂 xx

This is something I’ve been thinking about loads at the moment too – I seem to spend so much time scrolling through Instagram and while sometimes it leaves me feeling inspired, more often than not I just end up in the comparison sinkhole. It’s so important to remember that as you said, Instagram is enhanced life and what you see on social media is only a few snapshots in time of someone’s life, not the whole story!

I feel exactly the same as you, I love creating pictures and the thrill I get from capturing the perfect shot but every time I scroll through instagram I feel not good enough and upset that my pictures are not as good as someone else’s, it’s so stupid when you really think about it! Thank you for sharing this! x
