We all want to step out of our comfort zone and wear the ‘it’ item or something a little different than what we usually would wear but ‘it wouldn’t look like that on me’ or ‘I don’t know what to wear it with’ will always take over our minds and convince us not to wear it…
I kept seeing this skirt in store and then online and I saw people styling it up to perfection! I have mentioned before that this style of skirt doesn’t always suit my body shape, I think it makes me look a little wider than I am on the hips and doesn’t do much for my short legs, oh and my boyfriend said it looked like a thermal foil blanket, so the odds are against me, but I really wanted to wear it!
So how do we conqueror these thoughts and step out with confidence in our new garms?
- Style with something you are comfortable with
You will feel uncomfortable if you feel unsure of everything you are wearing. So add a few of your favourite items to make you feel more comfortable in your new outfit. For example, with this outfit, I’ve teamed the skirt with 2 of my favourite jumpers and my favourite boots. Instantly I feel a little more ‘safe’ and like ‘me’.
- Don’t compare what it looks like on you than others
Don’t look at unrealistic comparisons. If you’re looking for inspiration, look at someone with a similar body shape, similar age or more similarities to you. I’m never going to look like the uber cool 5’8 Scandinavian girls in this skirt, so I’m not even going to start comparing!
- Feel confident and embrace change
If you are going to worry all night about what you look like in your new skirt, it’s probably going to ruin your night. You’ve chosen to wear it, so wear it with confidence and embrace the change in your wardrobe! If you wear it once and really hate it, then you can sell it or give it to someone else, but give it a go with confidence!
