The John Lewis EDIT is a handpicked selection of clothes and accessories encapsulating a key trend each month. I was lucky enough to have been invited to this month’s EDIT. This was my first ever proper blogger event so as you can imagine I was so chuffed to have been invited, very excited and also rather nervous!
After a quick dash out of the office, the usual run to the train, a power walk through Euston and getting lost around old street, I finally arrived in a very John Lewis-esque studio. It was located on the quirky back streets of Shoreditch in east London. The pictures don’t do the studio justice, it was so beautiful, I could have easily moved in! We were spoilt with champagne and cupcakes then having our nails and make-up done too – what a treat!
“This month’s EDIT brings together a selection of spring’s most exciting pieces to create a sports-inspired look. Sports Luxe combines clean lines, luxurious fabrics and easy basics to make a wearable, contemporary silhouette. ‘Style and comfort’ is the name of the game. Whilst the trend translates strongly into a monochrome palette, colour blocking is used to inject some extra energy. For the ultimate look, pair heels with slouchy, cuffed trousers and structured tee” – John Lewis.
We were tasked with styling up three looks from the new Sports Luxe collection. When I first got the invite and sports luxe was mentioned, I was feeling like a nervous nelly as I didn’t think I was much of a sporty girl. Seeing the stunning new collection completely opened my eyes. As soon as you hear ‘Sports Luxe’ we all instantly think, sporty wear, but no, John Lewis have pulled out all the stops, we had heels, designer handbags, gorgeous over-sized coats and printed dresses. Yes, Sports Luxe is surprisingly feminine and glam.
As this was for John Lewis, just as you would expect, all of the pieces were high quality and oozed classiness. The collection included high end brands such as DKNY, Whistles, Dune and many more but most excitingly, JL’s own brand called Kin. Kin is affordable, well designed, contemporay yet timeless; clothes for everyone.
Down to the styling now, as soon as I saw the clothing, I instantly fell in love with the Whistles ivory coat, I knew I had to work that coat into a look. I tried to incorporate, casual, smart and a ‘more dressy’ look in to my three styles. I have to say, wearing the Whistles yellow print dress topped with the Whistles esther jacket made me feel rather K-Middy! Kate Middleton loves Whistles and this is something I can totally imagine her wearing.
Once we had picked our three looks, we had to have them photographed…… ARGH! It’s easy in my garden with my family taking my photos but with a professional photographer, big lights, big camera, people watching…. it was pretty daunting. Luckily I’d had a couple of glasses of bubbly to ease the nerves!
Here are my favourite pieces from the collection:
There are two main objectives for John Lewis events. The first is to change perceptions of John Lewis as a fashion retailer, and second is to drive awareness of the John Lewis brand.
Personally I think the blogger events are great for them because some people do think the clothing is for more of an older crowd, but all of us bloggers are under 30 and loved the collection!
I had a fabulous time with all of the lovely ladies from John Lewis and what a pleasure it was to be a part of the blogging community and to meet some fellow bloggers.
The April EDIT definitely proved that sports influenced fashion can be smart and luxurious!
I hope you’ve all enjoyed reading this and finding out all about the EDIT, I have had quite a few questions so I hope this has answered them all. I can now browse the fashion department in John Lewis as well as drooling over the extremely perfect homeware.
